Kandilli’s 115 Years of Climate Data Reinterpreted at Hackathon

The "115 Years of Kandilli’s Climate Memory: Digitization and Analysis Hackathon" was organized by the Meteorology Laboratory of our Institute and hosted by the Department of Computer Engineering at Boğaziçi University on March 6–7, 2026.
Throughout the event, participants focused on analog meteorological charts recorded at the Kandilli Observatory since 1911. The projects developed during the hackathon aimed to digitize, analyze, and visualize these significant historical datasets, bridging the gap between historical records and modern data science.
The event brought together 45 students from four different universities. At the conclusion of the hackathon, three teams were awarded for their outstanding contributions. Additionally, two other teams have been invited to further refine their projects. These teams, alongside the winners, will present their final work at a dedicated workshop to be held at KOERI on March 27, 2026.
Detailed information regarding the projects and further event highlights can be accessed through the official Meteorology Laboratory website.
