Disaster Risk Finance Academy visit to KOERI

Participants of the World Bank Group’s Disaster Risk Finance Academy Program visited the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KOERI) as part of their ongoing efforts to enhance global disaster preparedness through Insuring Risk from Natural Disasters.
The visit brought together 50 senior decision-makers from across Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. During their time at KOERI, the delegation was briefed on the institute’s multidisciplinary role in both scientific research and disaster risk management. Operational activities, particularly those carried out by the Regional Earthquake-Tsunami Monitoring Center are also introduced. The program also included an introduction to KOERI’s astronomy department.
This visit highlights the importance of know-how of universities and research institutes, international collaboration in developing comprehensive strategies for managing disaster-related financial risks and improving early warning systems worldwide.
