It is the intent of RELEMR and the developers that this facility would prove to be useful for the entire seismology community in the region for the following and other uses:
1. Data exchange for earthquakes of interest in the region. The web site would provide a means for rapid distribution of data for researchers.
2. Provide data for institutions which do not operate seismic networks. This would be of particular interest for educational institutions which have a curriculum in seismology by providing data for rapid earthquake parameter determinations.
3. Provide a means to effectively distribute data and products of analysis for RELEMR meetings and other such activities.

RELEMR Seismic Data Exchange Site
Uploading seismic waveform data to the server.
In this function, you will be uploading data from your network to be shared with other users of the data sharing webpage. You should assume that this data will be openly available within the users.
1. Because of the expected volume of data and differing directory structures in each observatory, we request the following:
2. The seismic waveform data be in a commonly accepted format, preferably SAC or Seisan. Data submitted in other than SAC or Seisan would have to be converted and at present, only data in miniSEED, SEED, GCF, or GSE can be converted.
3. Data should be organized into event files, that is, each earthquake should be in its own directory/folder with various networks and stations for each event in the appropriate sub-directory. For example, the directory for a specified event could have subdirectories containing data from the North Network, South Network, East Network and West Network. Seismic waveforms can then be put in the subdirectories, or the subdirectories could contain further subdirectories.
4. There also must be a text file giving the station names, coordinates and response function, if it is not already in the data header. Any special notations should also be put in this text file and named “README”.
5. The event directory/folder should be named after the observatory and event date, such as: LLNL_2010-02-08_Fiji. To save space, you are requested to compress the directory/folder using any commonly accepted method, such as, tar and gzip, or zip. Thus in the example above, the directory is now a file with the name: LLNL_2010-02-08_Fiji.tar.gz
You may choose to upload other than seismic waveforms, such as bulletins, and strong motion data, however, the files must be clearly marked as such. The event file can then be uploaded as follows:
1. Click the “Upload” button in the upper left box in the browser window.
2. Navigate to the appropriate compressed file using the “Browse” button and upload by clicking on the “Upload” button. Files to be uploaded are limited to less than 200 mb. If your file is larger than 200 mb, please contact the system administrator.
After the event files are uploaded, Please send an email to the system administrator so that the events can be processed and put in the “download” directory. Note that the data that you upload is not seen, nor is available to any other user. Your data will be combined with other contributed data and put in the download section once the format has been converted (if necessary).
Files that have been uploaded can be seen under the “My Files” menu in the upper left box in the browser window.
Downloading data
Files can be downloaded by clicking on the “Download” button in the Menu box. Select either SAC or Seisan formatted files and click “List Events”. Available files are listed and files can be downloaded by clicking the links. Data are compressed and must be uncompressed (unzipped) before using.
Please acknowledge the source of the data when publishing results using the data from the data sharing site. You are also asked not to redistribute the data without permission of the organization that provided the data.
Please remember that this site is still being developed. We would appreciate any comments or suggestions for improving the data sharing site or the methodology.
