With the aim of monitoring the nuclear explosions around the globe, Turkish General Command and Air Force Technical Application Center (AFTAC) under the Defense Economic Corporation Agreement (DECA) has been jointly operating this seismic array since 1951. In 1990’s, Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) was established in Vienna (International Data Center-IDC) under United Nations. As a result of this agreement, operation of Belbaşı facility was transferred to Bogazi University, Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KOERI) under CTBTO context.
