SEISMIC PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF A BUILDING COLLAPSED IN ADAPAZARI ON AUGUST17, 1999

Various analysis methods, both Iinear and nonlinear are available for the analysis of the structures. The most basic inelastic analysis method is the complete nonlinear time history analysis, which is very complex and impractical for general use. Simplified nonlinear analysis methods, referred to as nonlinear static analysis, include the displacement coefficient method and capacity spectrum method. Nonlinear static analysis procedures require determination of three primary elements which are capacity, demand and performance. In this thesis, a building which is collapsed in Adapazan on august 17, 1999 is seismically evaluated for the performance. The structure is a typicaI 5-storey reinforced concrete residentiaI building. It is seen by the analysis, it is not satis the life safety acceptability limits.
