EQE 584 Selected Topics in Earthquake Engineering "Pile Design and Construction Practice - with Emphasis on Earthquake Engineering"

COURSE NO AND TITLE

EQE 584 Selected Topics in Earthquake Engineering: "Pile Design and Construction Practice: with Emphasis on Earthquake Engineering"

INSTRUCTOR

Dr. U. Utku CELEP

COURSE OBJECTIVES

This graduate level course presents the fundamentals of pile design and construction practice, with special emphasis on seismic design.

COURSE SYLLABUS

The course introduces pile types, piling methods, compressive and tensile bearing resistance of piles in coarse grained and fine grained soils, rock socketing, design approaches and lateral resistance under seismic loading. Analytical design methods for practical use will comprise the core of the course with references to modern codes and textbooks,  though examples of numerical design methods will be demonstrated in order to introduce the recent design trends.
